Sanjay Bangar

The Punjab Kings on Friday announced former India all-rounder Sanjay Bangar as their head of cricket development. The appointment marks Bangar’s return to the Punjab Kings fold – he was the head coach of the team from 2014-16, when it was called Kings XI Punjab.
During Bangar’s stint, KXIP reached their maiden IPL final in 2014. From 2014 to 2019, he was the batting coach of the Indian team, and someone whom former India captain Virat Kohli credited a lot for his successful run in international cricket.Bangar was Royal Challengers Bangalore‘s head coach for the last three IPL seasons-they reached the playoffs under him in 2021 & 2022, while missed out narrowly in IPL2023.

Bangar played 12 Tests (470 runs@29.37, 7 wickets@49.00) and 15 ODIs (180 runs@13.84, 7 wickets@54.85) for India, besides featuring in 165 First-Class matches (8,349 runs@33.13 & 300 wickets@31.13 for Railways).
Speaking about his appointment, Bangar said, “It’s my privilege to be with the Punjab Kings again. We have a good core of players as evidenced by the fact that we have the lowest number of player releases this year. The challenge is to give the squad the best support possible during and after the season to make the team stronger and deliver success.”

Satish Menon, CEO of KPH Dream Cricket Pvt Ltd, said, “Sanjay is an experienced coach and has great credentials. Over the season and beyond we will leverage his ability to build relationships across the squad.”
