Ramesh Tendulkar, his father, was a Marathi poet and novelist. Rajni, his mother, works in the insurance industry. He has two half-brothers, Nitin and Ajit, as well as one half-sister, Savita. He spent his formative years at the “Sahitya Sahawas Cooperative Housing Society” in Bandra (East). He attended Sharadashram Vidyamandir High School for his education. He attended the M.R.F.Pace Foundation throughout his school days to train to be a fast bowler. But, on the advice of Australia’s fast bowler Dennis Lillee, he focused on batting.
