In preparation for their three-match ODI series against the West Indies next month, Australia has called up Xavier Bartlett and Jake Fraser-McGurk, who are yet to receive their caps.

Fraser-McGurk made headlines last year when, in just 29 deliveries, he shattered the List A record for the fastest century in history. Along with making 257 runs at a strike rate of 158.64 during an outstanding Big Bash League (BBL) season for the Melbourne Renegades, the youthful hitter also earned his first-ever century in first-class cricket for South Australia.

He is now an ILT20 player with the Dubai Capitals, but he will need to make a mid-season return to compete in the ODI series, which begins in Melbourne on February 2.

The 21-year-old was included in the squad after Glenn Maxwell was benched for the BBL season. Maxwell is anticipated to return for the T20Is against the West Indies, which come after the ODI series.

Cricket Australia has rested Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazelwood, the speed bowling trio. Steve Smith will captain the 13-man team.

Right-arm bowler Bartlett is now atop the list of players who have taken the most wickets in the BBL this season. He has amassed 17 wickets at an average of 14.82, making significant contributions during the Powerplay overs as well as at the Death
